COE (SA) 1v1 w/ Dribble Gate

    OBJECTIVE

    Improve ability to shift DF to get in behind when on the ball.

    Improve decision-making and timing of feints under pressure 

    SET UP:

    15-20m x 8-12m (depending on player ability: bigger = easier)

    Teams of 3-4 Mini goal on one end and dribble line on opposite end

    Multiple Grids necessary

    PROGRESSION – Make dribble line narrower  

  • Process

    PROCEDURE

    • DF Player (red) plays ball into AT Player (blue) and approaches
    • AT Player attempts to dribble over line to score
    • DF Player can score in mini goal if regains possession (transition moment)
    • 4 x 3-min rounds; swap roles after rounds

     COACHING POINTS

    • Head up to analyze playing area and DF position
    • Keep the ball close as you approach DF to be able to shift directions quickly
    • Timing of feint in order to shift defender
    • Disguise of intentions
    • Acceleration after getting by defender
