COE (SA) Shielding and Turns - Ball Tag

  • Organisation

    (see Diagram)

     

    - Play area large enough to house all players

    - Players in pairs:

          -- AT (blue): ball on ground

          -- DF (red): ball in hand

  • Process

    - DF player tries to score by throwing their ball and hitting their designated AT's ball 

    - AT player prevents DF from scoring utilizing various turns and shielding 

    - DF also gets 3 POINTS if AT player dribbles out of playing area

    - Swap roles after 45 seconds

    - 4-5 rounds

     

    PROGRESSION

    P1 - DF can score by hitting any of the AT's ball (AT have to be aware of multiple DF and protect ball accordingly) 

  • Tip

    OBJECTIVE: Improving the ability to protect the ball and turn from pressure 

     

    COACHING POINTS: 

    - Keep the ball on the "safe side" (body between DF and ball) 

    - Use of upper body to shield

    - Turning out and explointing space when DF overplays a side
