Midfield shoulder checks

    Midfielder needs to assess opponent to decide where to play ball through the use of shoulder checks. Gradual progression of 3 options. 1) pass back to central defender 2) pass off to fullback 3) turn the ball and move up the field
  • Process

    Three lines with coach acting as a defender 6 starts with the ball and passes back to 4 Shoulder check as 4 passes back Coach's position dictates the 2nd pass by 6 Players rotate after each play
  • Tip

    CB and FB must also recognize what the coach defender can add pass from 4 to 2 on option 1 passback all 3 players need to read the play body shape and precise passing are key
  • Field size

    run 2 sides of the field can also set a second activity of dribbling through centre channel for a shot on goal after a pass from 2 (use different color cones)
  • Cone margins

    7-10m between cones
