Dribbling techniques and tricks - Dribbling with Shot at Goal

  • Organisation

    Set up a the cones with a mini goal as shown. The group starts at the first cone. One ball per player. If this is not possible then each player should be instructed to collect their ball after they have shot and pass it to the next waiting player.
  • Process

    Each player begins at the first cone by dribbling at speed towards the first cone and then dribbles around the cone on the left side to then, be able to flick the ball to the right. He approaches the cone from the right, dribbles around it and then dribbles at top speed to the next cone. At that cone, the player turns towards the goal and then dribbles in tempo for the next 2m towards the next cone. He dummies this cone and then dribbles to the last cone. The player should then finish with his right foot. The player should then make a short sprint towards the last cone to finish with his left foot. The players should alternately approach the cones so that they shoot first with their left foot and then with their right foot for each drill. The player then joins the back of the group.
  • Tip

    - Close control (the ball shouldn’t be further than 50cm from the foot). - Top speed. - The ball should always be dribbled around the cone with the foot furthest away from the cone. - The change of direction should be completed immediately behind the cone. This trick then resembles actual game play. - The coach can also stand in place of the “trick cone” This increases the resemblance to actual game play. - The shot at goal should occur immediately after the player has passed the final cone.
