Play out from the back - build up

  • Organisation

GET ONE OF THE BACK 4 PLAYERS INTO THE MIDDLE THIRD WITH THE BALL UNDER CONTROLLED POSSESSION IN ORDER TO PLAY FORWARD. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FULL SQUAD IF AVAILABLE 1/2 FIELD WITH ONE MAIN GOAL AND 3 OR 4 SMALL TARGET GOALS

  • Process

TEAM TASK - GET ONE OF THE BACK 4 PLAYERS INTO THE MIDDLE THIRD WITH THE BALL UNDER CONTROLLED POSSESSION IN ORDER TO PLAY FORWARD. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 - PASSING WARM UP TO REFLECT MAIN SESSION 2 - POSITIONING GAME 3 - GAME TRAINING 4 - TRAINING GAME

  • Tip

GK - Support the player on the ball • When you pass to a player take up a position to receive a pass in time and space ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3 & 4 – Can you eliminate the 9 and get into midfield

•When the GK has the ball, position so it is hard for the opposition 9 to mark both of you on the corner of the 18 yard box

•Try to draw the 9 to one side and then switch play quickly

•Use the GK to switch the play across the back, if it is risky to play direct

•If you have space in front, drive into midfield

•If pressed by the 7/11, can you play the ball into 6/8 to bounce out to the free fullback (2/5).

•If pressed by the 9, and you can’t switch or play to the GK or fullback, can you pass to 6/8 so they can bounce to the other centre back/GK (or turn) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6/8 - Create space for you and the back four and support the back four when they need help

    • 6 to position between the lines (opposition 9 /10) and in line with the GK

    • 8 to position close to the half way line roughly the width of the centre circle apart

•If 3/4 is pressed by the 7/11, drop to provide support to bounce out to the free fullback (or turn)

•If 3/4 is pressed by the 9, drop to support and bounce to the other centre back (or turn)

•If 3/4 travel forward with the ball, closest midfielder pulls away inside or outside (see point below). Other midfielder pulls away and pushes on to drag the opposition away, or provides an option inside (if the other midfielder is supporting outside)

•If the centre back is wide, support inside the line. If the centre back is narrow, support outside the line

•If 2/5 have the ball, and cannot travel forward, closest midfielder is to drop roughly square of the ball to provide an option (this also opens the channel to 9 / 10
