Sprint dribbling and Passover

  • Organisation

A rectangle is formed with 4 cones. Two players stand at the start position with a ball, one players starts at each of the other cones.
  • Process

There are two variations of this drill. Variation 1: 5 players, 1 ball. Player A sprints towards player B. At the cone player B takes the ball off A at top speed and sprints diagonally to player C. The drill then continues as before (see graphic). Each take should take place at a distance of 1 -2m. Variation 2: 6 players, 2 balls The drill is the same as variation 1. The two balls start diagonally apart from one another and these cones should be occupied by at least 2 players. It makes sense to try this variation after the players have successfully mastered variation 1.
  • Tip

    - The ball should not be further thann 50cm from the foot when dribbling. Make sure the players take small steps. - Precision is more important than speed. - It is advisable to drible with the outstep and then use the instep to correct dribbling when needed. - The ball should not be passed too hard during the 'take'. - The player awaiting the ball should stand showing his team mate on which foot he would like to receive the pass. - The player awaiting the ball should start moving towards the ball when the passer has recieved the ball. - The standing leg is often too far away from the ball and/or the player leans back. - When passing the foot should be slightly lifted and swung downwards lightly towards the ball. - Many players control and drivbble the ball with their 'laces'. Controlling the ball with the instep is much easier as a first step.
