Warming up in the 4-4-2 diamond system with balls

  • Organisation

The team is positioned on the field in the defensive 4-4-2 basic formation in the defensive pressing zone. The set up of ten balls (cones) as shown in the diagram. The pressing zones can also optionally be shown through the different colored cones on the sideline (see the exercise: Warming up in the 4-4-2 linear system with balls).
  • Process

Set up of the ball/cone orientated paths in the diamond formation over the whole field. The balls are allocated numbers, which when the coach calls out the players run to in a team-tactical pressing group. From the diamond formation a line of three with an attacking midfielder in front comes about in the defensive group. The players in front move in the spaces between the corresponding midfielders or close the space in the middle where the ball comes.
