WU - Ball Mastery + DF Approach & Body Position

    OBJECTIVE:

    Ball Mastery WU + Individual DF technique  

    SET UP:

    • 15m x 8m lanes
    • 2 pairs in each lane

     

  • Process

     PROCEDURE:

    • DF (red) pass ball to AT (blue) and DF closes space quickly
    • AT dribbles from side to side (zig-zags) working on designated dribbling technique
    • As AT dribbles, the DF works on DF shape and jockeying
    • Switch roles after each rep

     DRIBBLE VARIATIONS:

    Inside Cut

    Outside Cut

    V-Pull

    Random (Unpredictable COD) – REACTIVE DF shape 

    COACHING POINTS:

    Approach: Close down the AT w/ speed and intensity to delay forward movement

    Communication: I GOT BALL!! (habit that translates to communication when defending in units)

    Braking + Body Position:Smaller steps as you approach AT. Lower center of gravity and angle body shape (“side-on”)

    Spacing: Be at a challenging distance from AT but not too close where he can easily accelerate pass you
