Dribbling - Direction Shift

  • Organisation

    • 7 cones (two different colors)

  • Process

The player dribbles towards the cone and performs a body feint, movement, or trick to drag the ball into the direction of the next cone.

    Examples/ Variations:

    1. Inside of the foot (strong and weak)

    2. Outside of the foot (strong and weak)

    3. Dragging the ball with the sole

    4. Zidane-Trick

    6. Backheel Drag/ Elastico

After the last red cone, the player dribbles towards the two yellow cones (end zone) and perform another feint, to return to the starting point.

    Examples/ Variations:

    1. Dragging the ball with the sole

    2. Cutting off

    3. Drag the ball behind standing foot

    4. Deco-Turn

    5. Shooting or Passing feint with change of direction

Finally, the player passes the ball to the player waiting at the starting point.

Then he will start the drill.

  • Tip

    Coaching Points:

    • High tempo and good technique

    • Movements (body feints, turns) should be done by the whole body so that it becomes harder to predict the next move for the defender

  • Field size

    • Consider age of players/ quality when setting up the cones and the distance between them
