Trio passing (short-short-long)

  • Organisation

    Sets of 3 cones/players in a straight line, 5m apart, with 1 player at each cone.  1 ball per group.

  • Process

    - Ball starts with the player at one end.

    - Plays 1-2 with middle player.

    - Passes to player at other end and switches place with middle player.

    - Repeat sequence from other end.



    - Receive ball behind your cone

    - 1st touch control to the other side of the cone

    - 2nd touch pass (close to cone, but don't hit it)

  • Tip

    Passes are short, so should be accurate with good first touch.

    As confidence increases, passes become 1st time passes.

    Players jogging very slowly, but continually moving.

    This is a warm up exercise, good for the start of training & before matches.

  • Field size

    10x10m for 3 sets of cones (9 players)

    10x15m for 4 sets of cones (12 players)

    10x20m for 5 sets of cones (15 players)

  • Cone margins

    3 cones per set spaced 5m apart.  Each set of 3 cones spaced 5m from the next set of cones.
