Building Up Play from the Four-Back Line

  • Organisation

    • 1 goal
    • 4 poles for 2 goals, positioned 10 meters behind the midfield line
    • Determine the positions of the team building up play from the 4-4-2 formation. Derive the positions of the defending team from the 4-2-3-1 formation.
  • Process

Blue team starts with possession of the ball. The attack is considered complete when a pole goal is passed through or when the midfield line is dribbled over. Red team defends at the designated level and counters on the large field goal after regaining possession. The goal formation provokes the desired solutions: Passing through the pole goal corresponds to the wide pass from the center-back to the forward offering between the lines. Alternatively, freeing the full-back, who carries the pass in dribbling over the midfield line.

  • Tip

    Coaching Points:

    • Dribble to engage opponents (don't rush dribbling)
    • Midfielders: Offer support against the shifting direction
    • Offer into space
    • Move away from the dribbling path of the center-back if they dribble

Note: Adjust the distance and position of the poles and goals according to the age and skill level of the players.
