Doubling in Modern Defending

  • Organisation

    • Use 6 cones to mark the playing area.
  • Process

    • Players 7, 8, and 10 (Blue) pass the ball among themselves behind a marked line without pressure. Players 6 and 10 (Red) shift ball-oriented but remain within the field. Players 4 and 5 (Red) also shift ball-oriented and cover player 9 (Blue), who positions to receive the pass. With the pass to 9 (Red), players 7, 8, and 10 (Blue) move into the field, creating a 4v4 situation.
    • The attackers aim to score. If defenders win the ball, they counterattack across the marked line.
  • Tip

    Coaching Points:

    • Double-team only when the ball carrier can be cut off from their teammates.
    • Apply pressure on the attacker during the pass.
    • The attacker must defend until their teammates join in to create numerical equality.
