The two players at the halfway line pass the ball back and forth, suddenly they pass the ball into one of the strikers.
The striker continues the attack by directly passing the ball out wide to the striker on the wing.
At the same time, the back-four shifts to the side, the full-back now marking the attacking winger.
If the full-back does not get there in time, the winger has time to cross the ball into the middle.
If the timing and positioning of the back-four is good, the ball will be played back to the goalkeeper and a new attack starts.
Coaching Points:
This drill should improve the cooperation and positioning within the back-four when shifting to one side when the winger/ striker receives the ball.
Since the defenders are outnumbered by the attacking players, their job is to stay tight and don't give the attacking players spaces in behind or in between positions.
