In the outer zones, 2 defenders play against 1 forward. In the middle zone, it's 2 vs 2.
Players try to play into the next zone. If successful, one player from the ball-possessing team moves from the previous zone to the next zone. The ball can also be played directly to the last zone. In that case, one player from the middle zone immediately moves up. Players from the defending team stay in their zone.
Variation
The ball-possessing team is outnumbered in the zones.
