Passing and Coordination with a Training Mat

  • Organisation

    • 1 ball
    • 1 training mat

  • Process

The player positions themselves on the mat. A training partner or coach stands about 3 meters away from the training mat with a ball in hand. The player stands exclusively on their left/right forefoot. The training partner throws the ball to the player on the mat, and the following tasks are performed:
    • Pass with the left/right instep (6 times each)
    • Pass with the left/right instep (6 times each)
    • Head the ball back (4 times each while standing on the left/right forefoot)
    • Jump and head the ball back. After the header, land again on the left/right forefoot (4 times each)
    • Chest control and pass back with the instep (6 times each foot)

  • Tip

    Coaching Points

    • Find stability in the ankle and knee joints
    • Build body tension
    • Do not lean back during passes (engage the core)
    • Pass the ball forcefully, not in a curved trajectory
    • With chest control, slightly twist the upper body to direct the ball to the foot used for the pass
    • Hit the ball with the broad part of the forehead. Create an arching tension.

  • Field size
