Assign a back four and 2 defensive midfielders (number 6).
Process
The coach/goalkeeper starts by passing to a center-back (A). The ball is then played to a full-back (C). The center-back retrieves the ball wide again.
While the full-back plays the ball back, the far-side defensive midfielder (E) positions between the center-backs. Simultaneously, the far-side center-back (B) shifts wider.
A turns towards the center and passes to the dropping defensive midfielder. The defensive midfielder passes to the wide-standing center-back (B). The second defensive midfielder (F) then switches sides and targets the half-space on the opposite side.
The center-back (B) plays deep to the full-back (D), who immediately plays to the incoming midfielder (F). F finishes the build-up by passing to the goal in the half-space (1-2 touches; as quickly as possible).
Then, the coach restarts the drill.
Variations:
After every 2 build-ups, start the next ball from the opposite side.
Instead of finishing the build-up with a pass to the goal, the midfielder shifts the play again from half-space to half-space. The previously dropped midfielder moves into this space and finishes the attack through the other goal.
B or A dribbles into the half-space after a change of play and either shoots at the mini goal themselves or passes to the second midfielder in the center. The midfielder turns towards the far side and shoots at the far-side mini goal.
Tip
Coaching Points:
Use few touches.
Play sharp passes.
After a change of play, pass to players on their front foot.
The far-side center-back pushes slightly higher during the change of play.
Full-backs maintain width and depth.
