Reinforced Defensive Line Against Equal Numbers (4 vs 2 against 4 vs 2)

  • Organisation

    • 1 goal
    • Split into 6 vs 6
  • Process

The reinforced defensive line shifts similarly to the shifting movements of a back four (or a back three) in space-oriented defending. They try to prevent deep balls (through balls) and create numerical superiority near the ball (then win the ball in 1 vs 2 situations).

The offensive players try to pass through the gaps in the defensive line or combine through the defensive ranks. Initially, only ground passes are allowed.

  • Tip

    Coaching Points for the defense:

    • The defender closest to the ball presses, the rest cover in a staggered formation
    • In the center: a defensive triangle
    • On the sides: a crescent shape
    • As soon as the 6 is bypassed, turn to double up
    • The goalkeeper also shifts in orientation to the ball
    • Demand communication between the defenders
