1 on 1 - Back Towards the Goal

  • Age U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point, End
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

  • 6 Marker Cones
  • 2 Goals
  • 10-16 Balls
  • Jerseys in 2 different colors (4 each)
  • Construct a pitch with a width of 30m and a length twice the size of the penalty area; additionally mark up a line through the middle of the pitch
  • Divide players into 2 teams of 4 field players and 2 keepers each

Procedure

There are 2 players per team in each half of the pitch and they must not leave their half. The keepers pass the ball to a teammate at the start of the exercise, and consequently every time the ball goes out or into the goal. Players are only allowed to score goals in their opponent’s half. Every individual game of 4 on 4 has a duration of about 3-4 minutes. After a break of 60-90 seconds, the teams switch sides and play again. Whichever team scores the most goals is the winner.
Alternative: No passes back to the keeper allowed

Tip

In the opponent’s half:

  • Incorporate a feint to lose your opponent and gain space with the ball; if not in possession, use a feint to open space for a pass
  • Carry the ball with the foot that is furthest away from the opposing player
  • If the opponent keeps their distance: switch into an open position immediately
  • If the opponent begins a tackle: open up into the tackle
  • Abruptly change direction or use a feint to overcome the opposing player and open the pitch for your attack
  • After winning the tackle, cross the opponent’s pathway with pace and quickly search for a finish
  • Quickly complete the attack with determination and focus
