1 on 1 - Wide Area Play

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point, End
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

Requirements:

  • 4 Marker Cones
  • 2 Goals
  • Jerseys in 2 different colors
  • 10-16 balls
  • Mark a pitch with the length of two penalty boxes and a width of about 100 feet
  • Divide players into two teams, each consisting of 3-5 field players and 1 keeper
  • Give each field player per team a number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Procedure

Players of both teams align themselves behind their respective goal lines. The coach calls out either 1, 2, or 3 numbers. The players whose numbers have been called will enter the pitch, thereby creating a 1 on 1, 2 on 2, or 3 on 3 scenario. The keeper of the attacking team brings the ball into play. Their turn is over when they have scored, the ball goes out of bounds, or after 30 seconds have passed. Both teams take turns being the offensive and defensive side.

Tip

  • Use the momentum of the keeper’s first pass and gather velocity
  • Enter 1 on 1 tackles with resolve
  • Create open spaces for the ball-carrying teammate by moving diagonally across the pitch
  • After winning a 1 on 1 tackle, take advantage of outnumbering the defending team
  • After winning the tackle, cross the opponent’s pathway with pace and quickly search for a finish. That way, you deny them a second chance of a confrontation
  • Quickly complete the attack with determination and focus
