1 on 1 - Wingers – Anticipating ang Gaining Possession

  • Age U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point, End
  • Number of Players 10-15 players

Setup

  • 8 Marker Cones
  • 2 Goals
  • 10-16 Balls
  • Jerseys in 2 different colors (6 each)
  • Construct a pitch of 45 x 55 meters; additionally mark 2 strips on the sides with a width of 12 m
  • Divide players into 2 teams of 6 field players and 2 keepers each

Procedure

Inside of the outlined pitch the teams play each other 6 versus 6. In the middle area, players are limited to 3 touches – not, however, on the side-strips. A player that gained possession in the side-strip and then enters the main area is free to as many touches until the ball is passed or lost. Goals count for two points, if they are either scored or immediately assisted from the side-strip, or after a dribbling from the side-strip into the main pitch.

Tip

  • Use the entire size of the pitch (height & width)
  • Involve the wingers into play using a forward and attacking momentum
  • Wingers: accept passes into your forward movement and increase tempo
  • Wingers: engage opposing players in a steep tackle
  • Wingers: abruptly change direction or use a feint to overcome the opposing player
  • Wingers: after winning the tackle, cross the opponent’s pathway with pace and quickly search for a finish. That way, you deny them a second chance of a confrontation
  • Wingers: do not lose tempo when feinting. Use simple feints that work well under high velocity, such as stepovers or sidesteps
