1 vs. 1 after a diagonal pass

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

Use cones to mark a field. On both ends of the field, a goal is set up with a goalkeeper in each. 6 field players are divided into two groups of 3 and placed next to the goals as shown in the diagram. A cone is placed on each sideline to mark the halfway line.

Procedure

The blue player starts with a diagonal pass to the red player and immediately sprints toward him. The red player receives the ball and dribbles toward the goal. 2-4 metres in front of the red attacker, the blue player slows down, positions himself slightly offset to the side, and thus offers the attacker the far side from the goal. The attacker tries to beat the blue player and get a shot on goal. The blue player tries to win possession and attack the opposite goal. If the ball goes out of bounds, the next pair starts. Now the red player passes to the blue player. Alternative: If the goalkeeper saves the ball without holding it, he can immediately launch a counterattack.

Tip

- Players should stay on the balls of their feet. - The attacking player starts as the passer begins his backswing. - The attacker tries to use his sprinting speed. - The defender tries to challenge the attacker as early as possible so he cannot build up speed, and if possible, positions his body with shoulder forward between himself and the attacker. - 6 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
