1 vs 1 with Opponent Behind

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

Pitch: Set up two flat markers 10 metres apart. Behind one of the flat markers stand two mini goals side by side, alternatively dribbling goals, 5 metres apart.

Equipment: 2 flat markers, 2 mini goals, balls.

Players: At the flat marker further from the goals stands a player with a ball. At the flat marker nearer the goals stands a team-mate, with an opponent about one metre behind.

Procedure

  • The team-mate without the ball gives a signal and moves 1 to 2 metres towards the passer.
  • As soon as this player sets off, the opponent may follow.
  • The player with the ball passes to the team-mate after the signal.
  • The receiver now tries, with the opponent behind, to turn and to score in one of the two goals.
  • If the opponent wins the ball, that player tries to take it to the flat marker further from the goals and receives one point for doing so.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • The receiver should gain an advantage with body feints and skill moves.
  • The passer should support the team-mate with clear communication.
  • The opponent should keep an arm's length behind the attacker in order to stay able to react.
