1 vs 2 Variant

  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

  • 1 goal
  • Cones to mark the field
  • Split attackers and defenders
  • Divide defenders into pairs of 2

Procedure

  • The attackers position themselves on the left wing. The first pair of defenders positions themselves in front of the goal.
  • An attacker starts with the ball towards the goal. The defenders try to win the ball.
  • After each completed drill, the pairs of defenders and the attackers switch.

Tip

Coaching Points

  • Defenders in numerical superiority should always defend aggressively.
  • Maintain a slight depth in positioning and a lateral stance to the attacker.
  • The advancing defender directs the attacker towards their partner to defend in a 2 vs 1 situation (double up).
  • The partner waits until the pressured attacker briefly releases the ball, then immediately attacks aggressively forward.
