1 vs All without a Ball

  • Age U6 - U13
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

Pitch: Mark out a channel about 10 metres wide and 20 metres long, the long sides are marked with red cones. At the halfway point there is a yellow cone on each side.

Equipment: Cones in two colours.

Players: One player stands as the catcher at the end of the channel, all the others next to each other on the starting line.

Procedure

  • The players at the start of the channel try to reach the end without being touched by the catcher.
  • Anyone who is touched goes back to the starting point.
  • Anyone who steps over the touchline also counts as caught.
  • Once all players have reached the end or have been caught, the next round starts.
  • The original catcher now tries, together with the players who have been caught, to tag as many players as possible.
  • The game runs until the last player has been caught.

Variations:

  • Use the cones in the middle as an additional rule, for example catching is only allowed in front of or behind them, or whoever passes the middle first gets an extra life.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • The runners should wait for the moment when the catcher is on the other side of the channel.
  • Use changes of pace and direction instead of running straight through.
  • The catcher should decide early and not stay standing between two runners.
