Set up a field from the goal line to the opposite penalty area. Two teams (blue and yellow) are formed to play against each other. Both teams consist of 10 players. Each goal has a goalkeeper.
Procedure
Both teams play in a 4-4-2 formation. The yellow team starts their attack from the midfield line. Team yellow may only stay in the blue team's half for the entire duration of the exercise. This applies to both offensive and defensive actions. This means as soon as yellow loses the ball to blue, blue must be pressed immediately in their own half! The goal is to win back the ball through aggressive, early pressing and to continue the attacking play aiming for a shot on goal. If blue wins the ball, the team tries to launch quick counterattacks on yellow's goal. Players have free play and the offside rule applies.
Tip
- The focus of this game format is on practising defensive movement patterns as a team unit with the options of scoring a goal or building ball control when in possession. Additionally, this game format trains playing against a deep-sitting team with the emphasis on pressing immediately after losing the ball. - The yellow-red team tries to get past the midfield line through quick, precise passing or to practice 'quick transition from defence to attack' after winning the ball. - The defensive team is positioned well when the opponent's ball carrier cannot play the ball forward and is prevented from dribbling through double-teaming. - 2 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
