10 vs 10 + goalkeepers in one half

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point

Setup

One half of the field is divided into three different zones using cones as shown in the diagram. Two teams of 10 (blue and red) are formed. Each of the two goals has a goalkeeper. Each zone has different touch restrictions for the teams.

Procedure

The game is played 10 vs 10 on 2 goals. The zones regulate the allowed number of touches for both the attacking and defending team: Zone 1 - attacking team = free play, defending team = 1 touch; Zone 2 - attacking team = 2 touches, defending team = 2 touches; Zone 3 - attacking team = 1 touch, defending team = free play).

Tip

- The focus of this game format is on ball control with the option of 'quick transition from defence to attack.' Additionally, this game format trains combination play, off-the-ball movement, and pressing of the team in possession. - The team without possession tries to cleverly close passing lanes and spaces and applies constant pressure on the player in possession and nearby opponents. - The teams should be in constant motion. Players continuously try to make themselves available as passing options for their teammates. - The team in possession should have players covering the flanks, the centre, and the half-spaces. - Getting locked into a tight space should be avoided. Therefore, switches of play and passes into depth, the half-spaces, or to the goalkeeper should be played regularly. - 8 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
