1v1 Duels in a Rectangle

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players

Setup

A field is marked with cones. On each end of the field, a cone goal is set up. 12 field players position themselves according to the diagram on the field perimeter. The red players have a ball. To mark the approach line, a cone is placed on each sideline.

Procedure

Red player A1 sprints to the approach line, checks, and gets open. At that moment, player A2 passes the ball into his running path. At the same time, two blue defensive players start to attack A1 and A2. The offensive player tries to turn toward the blue team's cone goal and score with his partner. If the blue team wins the ball, they may finish on the opposite goal. If the ball goes out of bounds or the duel lasts longer than 30 seconds, it is over and the next pair of players starts. After 3 minutes, the groups switch positions and thus the attacking rights change. Both teams count their goals. A goal only counts if the ball goes flat and without touching a cone into the goal. Alternative: - A blue player passes the ball to A, who goes at B with speed, and two more players from each team join the action.

Tip

- Precise, sharp passing into the attacker's run. - The offensive player must check at maximum speed. - Constantly demand feints. - The defensive players try to win the 1v1 with ball possession. - The defender should close down the path to goal. Stand offset to the side so the attacker has to take the far-side route or pass to his teammate. - Disrupt the attacker's first touch to prevent him from turning and building up speed. - In the 1v1, the defensive player should try to get his body between the opponent and the ball. - The coach announces beforehand whether the defenders play as a back two/three or man-to-man. - 10 cones
