Use cones to mark a field. On both ends of the field, a goal is set up with a goalkeeper in each. 4 field players are divided into two groups of 2 and placed next to the goals as shown in the diagram. A cone is placed on each sideline to mark the halfway line.
Procedure
The blue player starts with a diagonal pass to the red player and immediately sprints into the centre of the field. The red player receives the ball at top speed and dribbles toward the goal. Simultaneously, the second defender starts and pressures the dribbler. After the attacker's first touch, a second attacking player joins in. He tries to get open or to overlap the ball carrier to create new passing options. 2-4 metres in front of the red attackers, the blue players slow down, position themselves slightly offset to the side, and thus offer the attacker the far side from the goal. The attacker tries to beat the blue player and get a shot on goal. The blue team tries to win possession and attack the opposite goal. If the ball goes out of bounds, the next pair starts. Now the red player passes to the blue player. For the defenders: When the coach instructs man-to-man marking, they must always stay tight to their opponent. When instructed to defend zonally, they must shift, tuck in, cover, or hand off depending on the situation. Alternative: If the goalkeeper saves the ball without holding it, he can immediately launch a counterattack.
Tip
- The attacking player starts as the passer begins his backswing. - The attacker tries to use his sprinting speed. - The defenders try to challenge the attacker as early as possible so he cannot build up speed, and if possible, position their body with shoulder forward between themselves and the attacker. - The defender tries to catch up with the attacker, or close the passing lane, or force him wide. - The defender tries to win the tackle and gain possession. - The defender should block the path to goal. Stand slightly offset so the attacker must take the route farther from goal. - 6 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
