3+3 vs 3 on Four Small Goals

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players

Setup

A field is set up as shown in the diagram with two cone goals on each end line. Three attacking players and three defending players get in formation. The other six players are positioned along the sidelines.nnnnn

Procedure

A 3v3 is played with supporting players on the outside and behind the goal. Each team of 3 has 3 additional passing options on offence (2 on the wings, 1 behind the goal). The outside players have only one touch, the players in the centre have free play. The objective is to score goals. Alternative: Goals only count if all players on the scoring team have moved past the halfway line (are in the opposing half) at the time of scoring. Goals count double if the opposing team is not fully back in their own half at the time of the goal. Variation: Goals also count double if the assist for the goal came from an outside player.

Tip

- The focus of this game format is on rehearsing defensive running paths in pressing with the follow-up actions of 'quick transition from defence to attack' and ball control after winning possession. In addition, the team in possession works on its movement off the ball with the goal of scoring in a numerical advantage. - The objective for the defenders is either to win possession or to push the ball carrier into a non-dangerous area to the side and to block the passing lane to the goal/teammate by double-teaming or tucking in. - On offence, constant movement and fast, precise passing are required. Through the players on the sidelines, switches of play and through balls are always possible. - The defender tries to close down the attacker as early as possible so that the attacker cannot build up speed, and if possible positions his body between himself and the attacker with the shoulder forward. - The defender should close off the path to the goal. Stand offset to the side so that the attacker must take the route away from the goal. - 12 cones
