3v3 as a Back Three

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

A field is marked out with cones. 6 field players in two teams of 3 position themselves on the field as shown in the diagram in a line formation. A cone is placed on each sideline to mark the halfway line. The right blue outside back has the ball.

Procedure

The two teams play 3v3 in the rectangle, applying the running paths of a back three. Blue starting player B passes the ball to red player E. Player B presses E and the two outside backs A + C tuck in to provide cover behind the pressing player. The two red wide players immediately move toward the sideline to stretch the field and try to get the ball across the opposite line through short combinations or individual actions. A successful action earns a point. The offside rule applies.

Tip

- The defender tries to close down the attacker as early as possible so that the attacker cannot build up speed, and if possible positions his body between himself and the attacker with the shoulder forward. - If player F receives the ball, C shifts toward ball carrier F, B tucks in behind C, and A shifts behind B. - In the basic formation, the players stand in a line. The distances between players across the width are 7-12 m. When the players tuck in with depth stagger, the distances in depth are approximately 5 metres, the width remains the same. - The pressing player runs at top speed to the ball. The other two defenders constantly maintain the distances. - The starting signal for the running paths is the passer's backswing. - The team in possession tries to break through the opposing defensive line with passes to the wings, through balls, or dribbles. - 6 cones
