4 vs 2 - 6 vs 4

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players

Setup

Pitch: Mark out an area of 20 x 20 metres with four cones and mark a smaller area of 10 x 10 metres inside it.

Equipment: 8 cones, bibs in two colours, balls.

Players: Two teams, one with 4 and one with 6 players. The team of four stands completely inside the small area. From the team of six, 2 players also stand in the small area, the remaining 4 spread out in the large area outside the small area.

Procedure

  • A 4 vs 2 for keeping possession is played in the small area.
  • As soon as the 2 players win the ball, they play it out of the small area to their team-mates in the large area as quickly as possible.
  • If the 4 players cannot prevent this pass, a 6 vs 4 is then played in the large area.
  • As soon as the ball is won back or the team in possession has played 10 successful passes, the next round starts.

Variations:

  • Introduce a touch limit in order to shorten the time on the ball.
  • Block the small area in the 6 vs 4 in order to reduce the space.
  • Have the passes counted out loud.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • In the 4 vs 2, occupy the width and at the same time make sure that as many passing lanes as possible are blocked if the ball is lost.
  • After winning the ball, the first pass should lead out of the pressure situation.
  • In defence, make play tight near the ball in order to restrict the opponent's freedom of movement.
