Set up a cone rectangle. Two teams of 6 players each are formed and position themselves as shown in the diagram.
Procedure
From each team, 4 players enter the field. The other two players from each team position themselves on one side of the rectangle each. The two teams of four play against each other. The objective is to keep possession as long as possible. Both teams can play to their outside players when in possession. Players in the field have free play or 2 touches; outside players have one touch. Variation: After passing to an outside player, positions are swapped. The outside player enters the field and the previous field player becomes the outside player.
Tip
- Triangles must be constantly formed to provide passing options. - The passing game alternates between many short passes and occasional long passes to shift the zones of play. - Both teams should be in constant motion. Players continuously try to make themselves available as passing options for their teammates. - The team without possession tries to cleverly close passing lanes and spaces and applies constant pressure on the player in possession and nearby opponents. - Getting locked into a tight space can be avoided by involving the extra players on the sidelines. - This game format requires an enormous amount of running and tactical understanding and is characterised by constant communication and interplay with the players on the sideline. - 4 cones
