5 + 5 vs 5

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point

Setup

A playing field with 2 goals is marked with cones according to the diagram. 2 cones mark the midfield line. 4 teams (blue, yellow, grey, and red) of 5 players each are formed. Each goal has a goalkeeper.

Procedure

It is played 5 vs 5 with target players on the flanks and behind the goal. Each 5-player team has 5 additional passing options on offence (2 on the flanks, 3 behind the goal). The wide players have only one touch; the players in the centre have free play. The goal is to score. Goals only count if all players of the scoring team have pushed up past the midfield line (are in the opponent's half) at the time of scoring. Goals count double if the opposing team is not completely back defending in their own half at the time of scoring. The blue team may only play with the grey players and the red team only with the yellow players. Variation: Goals also count double if the assist came from a wide player.

Tip

- This game format requires enormous running volume and game intelligence and is characterised by constant communication and interplay between both halves. - The teams should be in constant motion. The players try to constantly offer themselves and be available as passing options for their teammates. - Triangles should be formed regularly, and the goalkeeper or wide players should be used as target players. - This game format trains short passing, playing in tight spaces, 1v1 defending, and quick switches of play as well as counterattacks. - The goal for the defenders is to either win possession or push the ball-carrying attacker into the non-dangerous area toward the side and block his passing lane to the goal/to his teammate through double-teaming or tucking in. - After 2-3 minutes, the 5-player teams should switch, as this game is physically very intense. - By forming 4 teams, a tournament/competitive character is created. - 6 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
