5 vs 6 + Goalkeeper

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

13 players take their positions according to the diagram on the half field, and a goal is set up on the goal line and midfield line. The ball-possessing 7-player team positions two forwards, one player each on the right and left flanks, behind them one player each in the right and left half position, and a goalkeeper with the ball. The 6-player team positions itself 16-20 m in front of their own goal in a back four on a line (8-12 metres spacing between each), one central midfielder in front, and a goalkeeper. On the sidelines at centre height and in the centre of the field, a cone is placed to serve as a midfield line marker.

Procedure

Two teams are formed. The blue team plays with 7 players against 6 players of the yellow-red team. After completing the attack or when the outnumbered team, after winning the ball, launches a quick counterattack or holds the ball with seven touches in their own ranks, the action is considered complete. The team with numerical advantage then regains possession. The 5-player team's defensive line is a back four and they play in a 4-1 formation + goalkeeper. The back four constantly practices the movement patterns required of a back four. The 7-player team plays in a 2-2-2 formation + goalkeeper as central player and tries to score through quick ball circulation, switches of play, overlapping runs, dribbling, crosses, and through balls. Both teams defend two goals. The offside rule applies after crossing the midfield line.

Tip

- The focus of this game format is on practising the movement patterns of the back four with the options of quick transition from defence to attack or ball control after winning the ball. Additionally, this game format trains playing in numerical advantage/disadvantage against a back four, with the emphasis for the team with numerical advantage on pressing immediately after losing the ball. - Attention should be paid to precise and powerful passing/attacking play. - The outnumbered team is positioned well when the opponent's ball carrier cannot play the ball forward and is prevented from dribbling through double-teaming. - 3 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
