11 players take their positions according to the diagram on the half field, and a goal is set up on the goal line and midfield line. The ball-possessing 6-player team positions two forwards, one player each on the right and left flanks, behind them one player each in the right and left half position, one of whom has the ball. The 5-player team positions itself 20-25 m in front of their own goal in a back four on a line (8-12 metres spacing between each) + goalkeeper. To mark the midfield line, a cone is placed on each sideline and in the centre of the field. Also, two cones to mark the end line.
Procedure
The blue team plays against the yellow-red team. After completing the attack or when the outnumbered team, after winning the ball, launches a quick counterattack or holds the ball with seven touches in their own ranks, the action is considered complete. The team with numerical advantage then regains possession with a new attack by the 6-player team. The back four is constantly required to execute the movement patterns of the back four. The 6-player team plays in a 2-2-2 formation and tries to score through quick ball circulation, switches of play, overlapping runs, dribbling, crosses, and through balls. Both teams defend one goal. The offside rule applies. We play with offside on one half. The 4-player team plays a back four. The defending team should shift well, tuck in, be hard-running, play aggressively, and not concede a goal. After winning the ball, they play a long ball to the goalkeeper. The 6-player team plays in a 4+2 formation. The attacking team should open with zigzag passes, carry attacks down the flanks with overlapping runs or diagonal balls. Also, constantly look for through balls into the seams, and seek 1v1 situations on the flanks or near goal and score goals. Quick passing with one-twos. The goalkeeper opens play for the blue team. Once an attack is complete, play starts again from the goalkeeper.
Tip
- The focus of this game format is on practising the movement patterns of the back four with the options of 'quick transition from defence to attack' or ball control after winning the ball. Additionally, this game format trains playing in numerical advantage against a back four, with the emphasis for the team with numerical advantage on pressing immediately after losing the ball. - Attention should be paid to precise and powerful passing/attacking play. - The outnumbered team is positioned well when the opponent's ball carrier cannot play the ball forward and is prevented from dribbling through double-teaming. - 5 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
