11 players take positions on the half field as shown in the diagram, with one goal set up on the goal line and one on the halfway line. The team of 6 in possession positions two players in attack, one player each on the right and left wing, and behind them one player each in the right and left half-space, one of whom has the ball. The team of 5 positions itself 20-25 m in front of their own goal in a flat back-four formation (8-12 metres apart) + goalkeeper. To mark the halfway line, one cone is placed on each sideline and in the centre of the field. Two additional cones mark the goal line.
Procedure
The blue team plays against the yellow-red team. After completing an attack or when the underload team makes a quick counter after winning the ball, or keeps possession for seven touches, the action is considered over. The overload team then receives the ball again for a new attacking sequence from the team of 6. The back four is constantly encouraged to execute the running paths of a four-man defensive line. The team of 6 plays in a 2-2-2 formation and tries to score through fast ball circulation, switches of play, overlapping runs, dribbling, crosses, and through passes. Both teams defend one goal. The offside rule applies. We play with offside on a half field. The team of 4 plays a back four. The defending team should shift well, tuck in, be active in running, play aggressively, not concede, and after winning the ball play a long ball to the goalkeeper. The team of 6 plays in a 4+2 formation. The attacking team should open play with zig-zag passes, carry attacks down the wings with overlapping runs and diagonal balls. Additionally, constantly look for through passes in depth through the gaps, and seek 1v1 situations on the wings or near the goal and score goals. Fast passing with one-twos. The goalkeeper opens play for the blue team. When an attack is completed, play restarts with the goalkeeper.
Tip
- The focus of this game form is on practising the back-four running paths with the options of 'quick transition from defence to attack' or ball control after winning the ball. Additionally, this game form trains the overload team in breaking down a back four, with the emphasis on the overload team pressing immediately after losing the ball. - Precise and powerful passing/attacking play should be emphasised. - The underload team is well-positioned when the opponent on the ball cannot play forward and is prevented from dribbling through double-teaming. - 5 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
