6 vs 6 + 2 attackers/defenders with goalkeepers in one half on 2 full-size goals
AgeU6 - U13, U14 - U19
Training SetMain point
Setup
In one half of the field, a midfield line and the sidelines are marked with cones. A goal is set up on the goal line and on the midfield line. Two teams of 8 are formed, positioned as shown in the diagram. Each goal has a goalkeeper.
Procedure
The game is played 8 vs 8, with a maximum of 12 field players allowed in one half at a time. Depending on how quickly the teams transition from attack to defence (and vice versa), constant numerical advantages and disadvantages arise, which should be exploited by quickly attempting to finish on goal. When numbers are even (6 vs 6), the attacking play should be set up so that the ball circulates through the team's own ranks until a gap opens in the defensive block.
Tip
- The focus of this game format is on ball control with the option of 'quick transition from defence to attack.' Additionally, this game format trains off-the-ball movement and pressing of the team in possession. - The teams should be in constant motion. Players continuously try to make themselves available as passing options for their teammates. - Getting locked into a tight space should be avoided. Therefore, switching the point of attack and through balls should be played regularly. - This game format requires an enormous amount of running and tactical understanding and is characterised by constant communication and interplay between both halves. - 5 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
