Set up a playing field across one half of the pitch. A goal is placed on the goal line, and on the midfield line a goal is placed centrally with a small cone goal on each side. Two teams (blue and yellow) of 6 players each are formed to play against each other. Each full-size goal has a goalkeeper.
Procedure
The blue team plays in a 4-2 formation toward the midfield line goal with the two cone goals. Team yellow plays in a 2-3-1 formation toward the goal line goal. Players have free play. The offside rule applies. Team yellow primarily tries to succeed through the wide three-player midfield, using the wide players. Team blue tries to shift well defensively and close down spaces for team yellow. When attacking, blue tries to finish on one of the three goals. To do this, it is necessary to disrupt the defending yellow team's shape through clever passing so that spaces open up, into which especially the two midfielders can run and get shots on goal.
Tip
- The focus of this game format is on practising the movement patterns of the back four + two defensive midfielders with the options of 'quick transition from defence to attack' or ball control after winning the ball. Additionally, this game format trains playing against a defensive/midfield line with the emphasis on either pressing immediately after losing the ball or dropping into the 4-2 formation. - Attention should be paid to precise and powerful passing/attacking play. - The defending team is positioned well when the opponent's ball carrier cannot play the ball forward and is prevented from dribbling through double-teaming. - The team defending three goals must shift much faster and constantly close down spaces and provide cover with the centre backs and midfielders. - 7 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
