8 vs 6 + Goalkeeper with Marked Zones

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point

Setup

Set up a field from the goal line to the opposite penalty area. In front of the goal on the penalty area line, a zone is marked with cones that will later serve as a 'free zone' for the attacking team. Two teams (blue and yellow) are formed to play against each other. The blue team consists of 8 players, the yellow team of 6. Each goal has a goalkeeper.

Procedure

Players play without touch restrictions; the offside rule applies. The blue team tries to create space through clever passing to play a ball into the zone so a teammate can control it, or to enter the zone by dribbling. The zone's characteristic is that no player from the defending yellow team may enter it, so the blue team has free play there. The yellow team therefore tries to press the blue team as early as possible and prevent any passing and/or running lanes into the zone. The emphasis is on midfield/attacking pressing by the team with numerical advantage and on escaping pressure situations when outnumbered, with quick counterattacks as follow-up actions.

Tip

- The focus of this game format is on practising the movement patterns of the back four + two defensive midfielders with the options of scoring a goal or building ball control when in possession. Additionally, this game format trains playing in numerical advantage against a back four with two central midfielders. - The team with numerical advantage plays pressing against the outnumbered team, tries to get into zone 1 through quick, precise passing or to practice 'quick transition from defence to attack' after winning the ball. - The outnumbered team is positioned well when the opponent's ball carrier cannot play the ball forward and is prevented from dribbling through double-teaming. - 5 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
