8 vs 6 + goalkeepers

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point

Setup

A goal is set up on the goal line and on the midfield line. Two teams are formed. Team red consists of 8 players and plays in a 2-4-2 formation, team blue consists of 6 players and plays in a 2-3-1 formation. The balls are distributed between the goals. There is a goalkeeper in each goal.

Procedure

The goalkeeper or one of the centre-backs opens play with a long ball to one of the two strikers or with a diagonal ball to one of the two wide players. The strikers should either lay the ball off to teammates or quickly look for a shot themselves; the wide players should cross or immediately dribble toward goal and look for a finish. The midfielders push up to capitalise on the second ball. The two centre-backs may only play long balls.

Tip

- The focus of this game format is on fast play with long balls into the attacking third. - The teams should be in constant motion. Players constantly try to make themselves available as passing options for their teammates. - The team without possession tries to cleverly close down passing lanes and spaces, constantly pressuring the player on the ball and those around him. - This game format requires an enormous amount of running and tactical understanding, characterised by constant communication. It also develops long-range passing and fast counterattacks. - Players must repeatedly break free from their markers and move into dangerous areas. - 2 full-size goal(s)
