8 vs 8 + Goalkeeper with Marked Zones

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point

Setup

Play takes place on the field between the two penalty areas. In front of each penalty area, goalkeeper zones (30 x 6 metres) are marked with cones. Two 8-player teams (blue and yellow) are formed to play against each other. The goalkeepers of both teams are in the zones.

Procedure

Both teams play in a 4-4 system. Team yellow plays a flat midfield line, team blue plays with a diamond. Each team's own goalkeeper stands in the opposite marked zone. The teams' task is to play the ball to their own goalkeeper. The team that can pass the ball to the goalkeeper so he can pick it up scores a point. Points can be scored by playing the ball in from the front or from the side. When competing for points, attention should be paid to clean tactical shifting and pressing the ball carrier early, so he cannot play a long ball to the goalkeeper. If the team in possession manages to get a player free with an open passing lane to the goalkeeper, he must play a long/medium-range lofted ball behind the defence to the goalkeeper. This perfectly simulates breaking through a back four.

Tip

- The two defensive back fours always act as a unit and must not get too far apart. - Players must constantly try to play long balls over the opponent's defensive line. - Training inside-of-the-foot passes. - 8 cones
