8 vs 8 on Eight Cone Goals

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point

Setup

A playing field is marked out with cones. Inside this field, 8 cone goals are set up. Two teams of 8 are formed.

Procedure

Team red and team blue play against each other and try to score as many goals as possible. A goal can be scored by passing the ball (from either side) through one of the cone goals and having a teammate control the ball on the other side. Both teams have unlimited touches. When a team scores a goal, they can immediately attack another cone goal. The team without possession must try to defend all goals.

Tip

- Triangles must constantly be formed to create passing options. - Passing alternates between many short passes, one-twos and occasional long passes to switch the zone of play. - Both teams should be in constant motion. Players continuously try to make themselves available as passing options for their teammates. - The team without possession tries to cleverly block passing lanes and spaces and applies constant pressure on the ball carrier and his nearby teammates. - This game form requires enormous running volume and tactical awareness and is characterised by constant communication and the interplay between offensive and defensive behaviour. - 20 cones
