8 vs 8 on Four Cone Goals

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

• 12 cones: A cone rectangle is set up with a cone goal (two red and two blue) placed centrally on each of its 4 lines.
• Two teams of 8 players each are formed.

Procedure

• The two teams play against each other with unlimited touches.
• The red team defends the two red cone goals and attacks the two blue cone goals.
• The blue team accordingly defends the blue cone goals and attacks the red ones.

Alternative:
• Limit touches to 3 touches | 2 touches | 1 touch

Tip

• The objective is to shift as a unit defensively depending on ball position and to transition quickly when winning possession. If a quick attack is not possible, the ball should be controlled and through targeted passing the opponent should be drawn into making runs until a free space opens up to get a shot on goal.
• The players must always keep the opposing team's players and the goals to be defended in sight.
• Maintain passing timing and accuracy.
• Play crisp and accurate passes.
• After losing the ball, transition quickly to defence.
• Communicate and organise with each other.
• Keep concentration high.
• When stuck, switch the point of attack and don't focus on just one goal.
• When possible, build up quick passing sequences and look for the pass in behind.
• When in possession, also change positions and don't play too statically.
