Attack Pattern with Options III

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

A goal is set up on the top end of the field, with a goalkeeper inside. 8 field players are positioned on the field as shown in the diagram. The two strikers take their positions 10 metres apart at the edge of the penalty area and the two wing pairs (A/E and D/H) approximately 10-15 metres apart. A centre back is positioned at the halfway line on the left semicircle marking and a midfielder is in the right half-space.

Procedure

The first 4 passes of this attack pattern are always the same: Player D plays a short pass to C (1), who passes the ball directly on to H (2). Player H lets the ball bounce to D (3), who now plays a long pass to left winger E (4). E receives the ball, starts a short dribble into the penalty area, and has the following passing options: 5a) he passes to I or J 5b) he plays to the left to A, who crosses 5c) he shoots on goal himself 5d) he lets it bounce back to B, who shoots on goal After pass 5b, a cross into the penalty area follows. This means the two strikers I and J cross and occupy the positions at the near and far post; players C and B occupy the central back space; and one of the two wing pairs D/H and A/E occupies the lateral back space to finish crosses that go beyond the penalty area.

Tip

- Make sure the rehearsed movement patterns lead to a fast, fluid overall movement. - Constantly demand accuracy and tempo (slow execution will not lead to match-realistic success in the long run). - Players should learn (similar to a match) to observe and apply what they have observed. - Eyes should regularly be lifted from the ball (alternating gaze between ball and forward). - The diagonal balls should be played with the inside of the foot and require pace and precision. - Player E has a variety of playing options. - This attack pattern greatly develops creativity. - When crossing, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser begins the crossing motion. - The crossing players or attackers must not start too early. - Depending on the passer's decision, the passing and running paths change for the other players. - 1 full-size goal(s)
