Attack Pattern with Switch of Play III

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

A goal is set up on the top end of the field, with a goalkeeper inside. 8 field players are positioned on the field as shown in the diagram. Two players go to each wing with 10-15 metres of space between them. The two strikers take their positions 10 metres apart at the edge of the penalty area. The remaining players line up in pairs to the left and right behind players B and C. The balls are at the centre circle.

Procedure

Player C starts with a half-diagonal pass to player A (1), who passes the ball on to B (2). B now passes the ball to left striker I (3), who lets the ball bounce to his strike partner J (4). J now has six passing options available: n 5 a) he plays into the channel for I 5 b) he plays to the left side to E 5 c) he lets it bounce back to B 5 d) he lets it bounce back to C 5 e) he plays a short pass into the run of H 5 f) he passes to the right side to D n Follow-up actions: 5 a + 5 e: I and H finish on goal. 5 b + 5 f: E and D deliver a cross into the penalty area. I and J cross and occupy the positions at the near and far post, B and C run into the central back space in front of the penalty area, and H and D occupy the right back space. 5 c + 5 d: C and B either shoot directly or lay the ball off diagonally into the run of E or D, who deliver crosses into the penalty area.

Tip

- Make sure the rehearsed movement patterns lead to a fast, fluid overall movement. - Constantly demand accuracy and tempo (slow execution will not lead to match-realistic success in the long run). - Players should learn (similar to a match) to observe and apply what they have observed. - Eyes should regularly be lifted from the ball (alternating gaze between ball and forward). - The diagonal balls should be played with the inside of the foot and require pace and precision. - Player J has a variety of playing options. - This attack pattern greatly develops creativity. - 1 full-size goal(s)
