Attacking / Offside Variation II

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

On one half of the field, 8 players are positioned as shown in the diagram. The two strikers J and I stand approximately 10 metres apart, the two wing players (A and E as well as H and D) approximately 10-12 metres apart. Two cone squares are set up on both sides of the penalty area, extending from the penalty area line. A goalkeeper is in the goal, the remaining players line up in pairs behind the two players B and C positioned at the halfway line. The balls are with the players at the centre circle.

Procedure

Player B opens with a diagonal flat pass to H (1). H lets the ball bounce to player D (2), who plays a diagonal lofted ball into the left cone square (3). E runs into the cone square, receives the ball on the run, and dribbles toward the end line (4), from where he delivers a cross into the penalty area (5). After the first pass, players B and C run straight toward the goal to occupy the central back space at the moment of the cross. At the moment player E begins the crossing motion, the two strikers I and J make crossing runs and occupy the positions at the near and far post. At the same time, the two right-side wingers H and D join the attack by occupying the right back space to finish crosses that go beyond the centre. The second round then starts from the waiting second pair of players, via the left side with a pass to E.

Tip

- Make sure the rehearsed movement patterns lead to a fast, fluid overall movement. - Constantly demand accuracy and tempo (slow execution will not lead to match-realistic success in the long run). - The diagonal balls should be played with the inside of the foot and require pace and precision. - 8 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
