Attacking / Offside Variation III

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

On one half of the field, 8 players are positioned as shown in the diagram. The two strikers J and I stand approximately 10 metres apart, the two wing players (A and E as well as H and D) approximately 10-15 metres apart. A goalkeeper is in the goal, the remaining players line up in pairs behind the two players B and C positioned at the halfway line. The balls are with the players at the centre circle.

Procedure

Player C starts with a diagonal pass to E (1), who lets the ball bounce into the run of player B (2). B now plays a pass into the run of player A (3) so that A can cross into the penalty area from just before the end line (4). After the first pass, players B and C run straight toward the goal to occupy the central back space at the moment of the cross. At the moment player A begins the crossing motion, the two strikers I and J make crossing runs and occupy the positions at the near and far post. At the same time, the two right-side wingers H and D join the attack by occupying the right back space to finish crosses that go beyond the centre. The second round then starts from the waiting second pair of players K and L, with a pass from L to H.

Tip

- The strikers cross toward the near and far post. - When crossing, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser begins the crossing motion. - The crossing players or attackers must not start too early. - Make sure the rehearsed movement patterns lead to a fast, fluid overall movement. - The player expecting the pass makes a short check-away move at the same time as the passer's backswing. - The pass should be played into the running path of the player expecting the ball. - The passer must observe the running path of the player expecting the ball. - The diagonal balls should be played with the inside of the foot and require pace and precision. - 1 full-size goal(s)
