Back Pass Training

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

The right and left players at the penalty area corner each have a ball. The goalkeeper is in front of the goal and the other players are positioned as shown in the diagram. The pressing player is at the edge of the penalty area and the other goalkeeper is at the halfway line.

Procedure

The left player passes the ball to the goalkeeper, the blue-grey player runs at the goalkeeper and pressures him. The goalkeeper must now decide whether to play the ball directly or after receiving and controlling it to the right outside partner or to the player at the halfway line. If the goalkeeper at the halfway line receives a long pass, he catches it and distributes it via throw back to the left outside player. The exercise sequence alternates starting from the left and right.

Tip

- The goalkeeper is forced to observe the players in their actions in order to react to a pass. This especially trains the goalkeeper's awareness. - The balls must be cleanly processed by the goalkeeper. The ball reception and control should be done in one touch, with the second touch used for passing. - The passes to the goalkeeper come from different positions and can be played as both a ground pass and an aerial ball. - When receiving the ball with the chest, the chest should be turned in the desired direction at the moment of ball contact. - If possible, the goalkeeper should redirect the ball directly (with one touch). - The goalkeeper should use different passing techniques. Aerial balls should primarily be played as inside-of-the-foot kicks. - The players regularly rotate positions clockwise. - Demand accuracy in ball control, passing, and throws.
