Ball Control and Flat Passing

Setup

  • 1 bench/wall
  • 2 cones

Procedure

The player positions themselves behind the two cones and plays the ball flat against the wall/bench multiple times (for about 30 seconds per round). The following tasks can be performed:

  • Stop the ball with the inside of the foot and play it back to the wall with the same foot.
  • Take the ball forward diagonally with the inside of the foot and play it against the wall with the other foot.
  • Play the ball directly against the wall.
  • Take the ball sideways with the outside of the foot and play it against the wall.
  • Take the ball forward diagonally with the inside of the foot. Then, carry the ball further once with the outside of the foot and then pass it against the wall.
  • Play the ball directly against the wall. Gradually increase the distance from the wall as the exercise progresses.

Tip

  • Coaching Points 
    • After each pass, step back first and then move slightly towards the ball.
    • Powerful passes.
    • Purposeful first touch to enable a clean second touch.
    • Firm up the ankle (ball control and carrying).
    • Avoid leaning back when passing.
