Ball Control Techniques and Moves - Dribbling and Moves in Two Lines of 5

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

On both sides of the cone square, the players line up in 2 groups one behind the other. The distance between players is approx. 5 metres. Both starting players (see diagram) have a ball and face the remaining players. At the two diagonally opposite starting cones, one additional ball is placed.

Procedure

The starting player weaves in slalom around the players in his line. He dribbles the ball and performs a different (or always the same) move before each player to beat him. The obstacle players slowly walk toward him. The player closest to the starting cone takes the ball placed there once he reaches it and begins his own run, beating players with different moves. Once the dribbling player has passed all players, he plays the ball to the side to the starting player of the other group and lines up at the back of his group. This sequence is maintained continuously.

Tip

- This drill only works when the players in both groups maintain an identical running pace. To do this, they must observe each other and verbally give the dribbling player a pace target. - The distances between players must remain equal so that the dribbling player has the opportunity to execute his move cleanly. - The dribbling player is forced to constantly look up due to the oncoming players. The oncoming players must not be too fast, otherwise the distances no longer work. - Close and clean ball control is essential for the drill to succeed. - The dribbler must constantly watch both his ball and the opponent. - The final pass must be played accurately to the other side and the pass must also be announced to the opposite player. - 4 cones
